About AutoArena

AutoArena is a free tactical auto battler that runs in your web browser — nothing to download, no sign-up beyond a name. Draft a hero and 4 minis, deploy them on a 7×8 board with an elixir budget, star up duplicates, and watch a deterministic battle decide each round of a best-of-5 ranked match.

AutoArena at autoarena.gg is an independent browser game. It is not the upcoming Steam game AutoArena by MoJo Game, nor any of the AI tools that use the name, and is not affiliated with them.

How a match works

Before a match you choose a deck: one hero and 4 minis. Each round you get up to 30 seconds to spend elixir — new minis, or stars on the ones you have — and to place them on your half of a 7×8 board. Then the battle plays itself, usually in twenty-five to thirty seconds. Your army carries over to the next round; the first to 3 round wins takes the match.

Unspent elixir carries over, and whoever lost the last round draws 2 more for the next, so a match is rarely over before its last round — yet both players draw the same 36 elixir over a full match.

Under the hood

Every battle is a deterministic simulation stepped twenty times a second: the same armies and the same seed produce the same fight, tick for tick. The match server runs it and both players replay the identical result, so nothing is decided in the browser.

Higher up the ladder, the AI opponent plans each round by playing candidate armies out against what it can see of yours. Balance is checked the same way — every deck is played against every other deck at several strengths of play before a change ships.

The characters are rigs drawn in code and every sound effect is synthesised in the browser, so apart from its music the game ships no art or audio files.
